What is rughookology?
- The art, study, and practice of traditional and contemporary rug hooking, including its techniques, materials, design principles, color planning, wool preparation, and creative expression.
- A deep body of knowledge surrounding the craft of rug hooking and the people, traditions, and creativity connected to it.
- A playful coined term combining rug hooking and -ology (“the study of”), used to describe an immersive approach to learning and mastering the craft.
Example:
“She didn’t just learn rug hooking — she immersed herself in rughookology.”

In 2000, I was an artist who was searching for a medium. I tried everything. I liked water color the best, but when I failed to wash some brushes after a session, I knew I had to find something more forgiving. Then I found rug hooking.
My goal is to help rug hookers find their own style, their own way of rug hooking instead of copying what other people are doing. Whether you use yarn or wool strips, punch or pull your loops traditionally from the top, are you ready to to start your OWN journey?
