Birch bark hooked trees by Joanne Lindstrom
This pictorial is a very simple design, but really pulls you in. Joanne hooked the largest birch trees that I know of using my specially dyed rug hooking wool. This rug is 21″ x 34″.

The sky was done using my sky wool and the method described in my book, Pictorial Basics, Pine Trees, Grass and Sky. The little bit of water is hooked with the same wool, just upside down.

I’m starting a project that has birch trees, when will the wool be available?
I have no idea when or even if the wool will be available again. Unless we can dye is consistently, I will not offer it. I do have a few never to be repeated pieces that I cannot sell online. Contact me via email or phone for more details.

I’m in the process of hooking birch trees with just white, grey and black wool. Not pre-dyed for this purpose. Simply 3 different colors. Do you hook horizontally or vertically ? I’ve tried different ways and putting in bits of black here and there, but I find that they don’t look anything like birch trees at all…

That is exactly why I developed this dye method! Using this wool all you have to do is decide on a cut size (trial and error will tell you what is right) and then hook them with your rows going up and down.
It is also good for picket fences (cut in the opposite direction) or animals such as cats and chickens when it is mixed with other wools. Thanks, Annette.

Hello all. My name is Tanya, and I live in Cleveland, Ohio. I am new to rug hooking, and i have fallen in love with it. “But,” I enjoy Punch Needle with yarn as well. Doing my birch trees I tend to do the darker part first and then do the lighter part around the dark. I did purchase your wool for birch trees but didn’t know how to use it at that time. I am torn between hooking and punch needle. Thanks
