Drawing and Creativity: You Can Do It!

On the new year, many people make resolutions to improve some aspect of their lives. Is yours about drawing and becoming more creative? It’s not just something you are born with, it is something you can learn. You can learn to be creative by doing exercises just as physical exercise improves your muscles, creative exercises allow you to find “the zone.” I found this cute book in Cloth Paper Scissors magazine. It has 52 exercises, one for each week of the new year.

I haven’t read this one yet, but it looks promising. My husband had a heart attack on Monday and I intended to have this book read before the new year, but it didn’t work out. David is home and doing well. We will be starting cardiac rehabilitation soon. He gave me quite a scare. After the ambulance ride to the hospital, he needed to be taken by helicopter to Toledo to get special care. They got him to the surgeon in time with only minimal damage.

What is your New Year’s resolution? Have you read a book that inspired you? Let me know and I’ll share it here on this post.

  2. Shirl,
Welcome to rug hooking. I have plans to post a how to transfer a pattern lesson. Not sure when it will come out, but if you are subscribed you will get an email with each new post and will never miss out.

  3. I’m so glad all is well with your husband. My husband had 2 bypass surgery’s and several stints, and angioplasties. Not fun. I know the worry and wear and tear it is on you. Being a care giver is stressful and tiresome.
Thank you for your site. I am just now learning Rug Hooking.. I am excited and look forward to hours of fun. I am creative so plan on drawing some designs eventually.
If you have any suggestions I would love to have them.
    Thanks.. shirl

  4. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to comment. Your advice will be taken seriously, and David appears to be taking the doctor’s advice seriously. Time will tell. This is his second stent. With the first, he did not have a heart attack and I joked with the cardiologist that it did not hurt nearly enough to get his attention. This one did. Thank goodness he did not need full out heart surgery. I am not good in hospital waiting rooms. God bless my daughter, Jenny, for being there as soon as humanly possible.

  5. Cindi,

I am so very, very sorry to hear about David, but am glad he is doing well. My husband had 9 1/2 hours of cardiac surgery two years ago, so I have an idea what you’re going through. Just make sure to take enough time to take care of yourself as well, because he will be counting on you. You have really had your hands full with your family’s health issues. Please take care.

    Hugs,
    Aryl

  6. Hi Cindy,
I am so enjoying your helpful newsletters……. very sorry to hear about your husband’s experience and glad to hear he is on the mend.
I plan to buy that drawing book you refer to right now…. a great way to start the New Year…. drawing has always been a frustrating weakness for me and I really haven’t ever seriously done anything about it but wish for better skills!
My mermaid rug from Cape May is awaiting my attention now that the holidays are over. I look forward to working with you again in this new year……
Thank you again for all of the inspiration…..
    Fondly,
    Gail Tilton from Cape Cod

  7. Cindy, my prayers are with you and your husband for a speedy recovery! Life is so precious, charish every minute!
I am from St. Louis, which just had the tornado hit our town and just a few miles from my home. My daughter and 18 month old grand son were visiting me…God was looking out for us, the tornado just past over us.
    Happy New Year!

  8. Hi Cindi
How scary that must have been for you and your family. Glad to hear that he is OK and hope that his recovery will go well. Take care of yourself as well so that you can be supportive of him.

  9. Dear Cindi
So sorry to hear of your husband’s heart attack but happy to hear he is doing well. It is amazing the things that the medical community can do for these things in this day and age. Hope he will follow instructions and be faithful with his therapy. Hope you are taking care of yourself as well.
    Barbara

  10. Tell David to work hard in therapy and his follow-up. Try and take good care of yourself, too. You have had a tough year too.

  11. Cindi,
I’m so sorry to hear about your husbands heart attack. Glad to hear he is home and doing better.
I think I need to look this book up. Drawing is not my strong suit.
Looking forward to your class in Manistee.

  12. Cindi,

It is good to hear that David is home and doing fine after that big scare. It is bad enough to be carted over in an ambulance but things are really compounded when you add in a helicopter ride.
Please be sure you remember to take care of yourself while David rehabilitates. You can forget how important it is for you to stay healthy.
Best wishes to you and your family this upcoming year.

  13. Cindi:
Glad to hear David is doing well. Being “the other half” during the heart attack can be really scarey! I wish you both good luck and good health during the New Year.
    Lois

  14. Cindi,
