Lesson: Hook a bit here, then a bit there
I’ll be away from the rug hooking frame while I clear out some backlogged paperwork to get ready to do the dreaded taxes. It used to take a day or so to get things ready but with the business, it seems to take forever. I have decided to hit it hard and get it done.
While clearing off my hard drive, I found this photo. It is a bit dark, but it is a perfect example of how I hook all over the project. This helps me to get a feel for how the colors work and if I run into a problem, I just move on. My goal is to complete the background before I complete the motifs.
The above footstool rug hooking pattern is called “Pocketful” and is designed by Katherine Porter. It is available here on this website. This was my first footstool and it needed a companion, so I designed, “Annie’s Flower Power” below.
“Annie’s Flower Power” footstool was designed to work out some of the design ideas I had for my room-sized rug. For those of you following the blog you can see the resemblance. hi Cindi -. I am working on a rug using rug warp as my base. My cuts are #4. I am using a hook with a good shank but this warp is very difficult to pull thru. It also splits. What advice can you give. I have to stick with it because my major motif is done and I’m working sky and land. It has been a real struggle. Patty
I’m guessing you are not using rug warp. It would be very difficult to get the treads to split. Do you have any white threads running through creating squares about 2″ square or so? If so that is monk’s cloth and (in my opinion) is just a notch above burlap.
Rug warp is very heavy and not very limp. It also does not rack back and forth like monk’s cloth. You can see a close up of rug warp on my store.
Notice that is is one thick thread going over and under. Monk’s cloth will have two smaller threads that travel together.
Hi Cindi- I love the footstool Do you have a pattern for making the stool or could
you tell me where it can be purchased? I would love to make one after the holidays.
